A Strong Connection to the Sea and Resilience in the Winning Performance from Iceland
A group of ten-year-old boys deliver a powerful performance that they created entirely on their own. They performed the song Róa (“Row”), which draws on Iceland’s deep connection to the sea — rowing a boat, life on an island in the North Atlantic, and the tradition of fishing here in Iceland. At the same time, the lyrics serve as a clear metaphor for perseverance, resilience, and the determination to keep going even when the waves are high and the wind is against you. The boys choreographed the dance, filmed the video themselves, and edited it with creativity and care. Their inspiring performance earned them a well-deserved victory in the competition Flatóvision in our school, the preliminary round of Schoolovision.
